Jill Hutchins

Director of School Planning

Jill Hutchins is an internationally respected leader in educational planning, serving as Director of McMillan Education’s School Planning practice. Her leadership is rooted in student-centered values and an extraordinary background spanning decades in both school and college admissions. Jill’s career began in higher education as Assistant Director of Admissions at Marlboro College and Landmark College in Vermont, before she transitioned to the independent and boarding school world. At Vermont Academy, she quickly rose to Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, and most recently, she served as Associate Head of School for Enrollment Management at The Dublin School in New Hampshire, where she oversaw admissions operations and contributed to strategic planning.

Jill’s expertise is truly global-her work with families and schools across Asia, Turkey, Mexico, the UK, and Canada has given her a comprehensive, 30,000-foot view of the educational landscape. She is uniquely skilled at helping families understand the programmatic and cultural nuances of a wide spectrum of day and boarding schools, empowering them to make informed choices that align with each student’s individual goals. Her deep knowledge of student learning differences, honed through roles as a learning specialist and cognitive disability specialist, ensures that every student’s needs are carefully considered and supported.

Recognized for her contributions to the field, Jill has served on the Board of Trustees for The Association of Boarding Schools and has been honored by the Small Boarding Schools Association for advancing the mission of small boarding schools. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Mount Holyoke College and is an alumna of Brewster Academy.

Jill’s warmth, humor, and accessibility immediately put families and colleagues at ease, making the complexities of the admissions process feel manageable and even inspiring. Students and parents consistently value her sage guidance and authentic commitment to whole-student advocacy, while her colleagues appreciate the professional and personal gifts she brings to every interaction.

Outside of her professional life, Jill lives in southern New Hampshire with her husband Ray, their Portuguese water poodle Finbar, and new puppy Maple. They are proud parents to Lyle, a college music student, and enjoy a family life filled with music, hiking, live performances, and board games.
